On October 3 beijingkids sent out a WeChat plea to the community to help save baby Camila Cortavitarte Urdandeta. The post received over 3,000 reads and in just four days donations for baby Camila reached RMB 400,000 towards medical bills! Parents Coro and Marco are grateful to all those who have donated and shared their story.

Independent communities in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu have set up fundraising events of their own to help the cause. Others have offered to send meals, toys, and food to the family. While Camila is still too small and fragile to enjoy them right now, the support has been overwhelming and beyond Coro and Marco’s wildest expectations. We’re 2/3 of the way there to meet Camila’s target of RMB 600,000 to cover all her medical expenses.

On October 6 Camila opened her eyes during Marco and Coro’s visit. Camila’s hemoglobin and platelets count were low and they found an infection in her blood. She’s currently undergoing antibiotic treatments. However, with the support that Marco and Coro have received these past few days they are able to look their daughter in the eyes and genuinely tell her that everything is going to be alright.

Thank you to all those tho have donated and helped share her story. “It’s given me so much hope and strength to know that we have such a strong, generous community to support Camila. We are so touched and humbled by the tremendous support of everyone, and this gives us hope that she will be able to grow into a happy, healthy baby.”, says Coro.

The Beijing community has come together to host fundraising events for baby Camila.
